Hanger Takes Hold
the silly (but very serious) experience of forgetting to eat until it's too late
I feel the chemicals in my blood boil like the pipping pipin’ sun.
I become what I always have been, a ravenous animal, starved and suppressed.
A bear hoping to score.
Quiet now or say something you’ll regret.
A granola bar—a mockery as two peanuts are to a stellar’s jay.
I’m faint and furrowed and weak as can be.
Catch me low energy then coked up like a business beast.
You’re saying the absolute worst thing in the world.
Don’t you know my speech is immobilized?
I smell the matzah ball soup cookin’ too far away from me.
What’s a girl gotta do for veggie broth galore?
Can’t seem to remember my lunch…
Can’t seem to forget about lunch.
The dog thinks I eat all day.
When one fridge door closes, another one opens.
This would be an opportune time to grab that matzah by the balls.
